One million pounds and counting, for poker in Europe.

The Weekly Poker Net, Volume 36

Annette_15 Takes Bracelet --  Norway’s Annette Obrestad has been an online sensation virtually since she took up the game, but great or not, no one was prepared for her to break through on the live poker scene so soon.  Obrestad, whose 19th birthday is this week, came from the middle of the pack at the final table to win the first-ever World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, finally topping John Tabatabai during heads-up play.  Obrestad becomes the youngest-ever bracelet holder, in what is perhaps the biggest win to date by a female player.  Obrestad’s hold on the "youngest" title might last for a bit, too, since the U.S. version of the WSOP has an age-21 minimum.  Obrestad also collected £1,000,000 for her win.

World Championship Of Online Poker VI (WCOOP) Begins --  23 events over 17 days... that’s the agenda for this year’s WCOOP at PokerStars.  As expected, each of the early events has crushed its pre-tourney guarantee prize amount, all but assuring that the WCOOP main event two weeks hence will be another history-making competition.  "samh133" kicked things off by winning the cash and bracelet in Event #1, a $215 Short-Handed No Limit Holdem competition that drew 4,495 entrants.

Jordan "iMsoLucky0" Morgan Takes Tunica Ring --  Jordan Morgan is among the growing number of online players to be successful in translating his skills to the live game.  Morgan followed up a successful 2007 WSOP run with his first championship in a major live event, winning the WSOP Circuit crown at Tunica, Mississippi.  Morgan’s triumph was worth $213,288.

Bodog Licenses Brand Name, Domains to Kahnawake Group --  Bodog’s solution to its ongoing patent disputes with 1st Technology took a bit of a twist, when Bodog signed an agreement for its North American licensing rights with Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, part of Canada’s Kahnawake tribal operation, a force in online-gambling networks.  The agreement covers the "Bodog" name and the recently created newbodog.com domain group; the original bodog.com domain was awarded to 1st Technology in a default judgment in a Nevada court.  Bodog CEO Calvin Ayre wasted little time in firing verbal volleys at 1st Technology and its boss, Dr. Scott Lewis, referring to them on his own blog as "patent trolls."

PokerTracker Site Hacked --  The home site of popular poker-performance software PokerTracker has been unavailable for several days after the site had been hacked by parties yet unknown.  Since the software is normally set up by its users to check for automatic updates, this caused thousands of applications to hang throughout the online poker world, waiting for a response from the site that wasn’t going to show up.  PokerTracker moved its support files to another site, and expects to return to normal operations shortly.

Pamela Anderson’s Poker Boy Toy --  The return of Pamela Anderson to poker news was as loud and ludicrous as possible.  Anderson "confided" in an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show that she’d fallen in love with a "professional poker player," after falling $250,000 into debt to the player at the poker table and working off the debt through what Pammie referred to as "sexual favors."  Whoring euphemisms aside, rumors have swirled around two possibilities for the possible next Mr. Pam: Rick Salomon, who first became notorious for marketing his 1 Night in Paris sexcapade video with Paris Hilton, or Antonion "The Magician" Esfandiari.~~
