Peters Wins European Poker Tour Event In Dublin
The Weekly Poker Net, Volume 43 Peters Overtakes "Annette_15" at EPT Dublin -- The latest stop on the PokerStars European Poker Tour took place in Dublin, and it looked as though it would be another coronation party for Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad, the 19-year-old Norwegian who took the poker world by storm, first by dominating online events and then with a stunning victory in the inaugural WSOP Europe Main Event. Obrestad looked to be the runaway winner here as well, knocking out four of the first six final-table opponents and opening up a huge chip lead, but she was finally reeled in by American Reuben Peters during heads-up play. Peters collected €532,620 for the win, while Obrestad had to settle for €297,800 as the runner-up. New Jersey Math Teacher Slain in New York City Poker Robbery -- Underground poker rooms are numerous in and around New York City, and one of the most popular, Straddle, was busted by authorities in August, only to reopen at a new midtown Manhattan location two weeks ago. This time the news was far worse, when one of its players, Frank DeSena, 55, was shot and killed during an armed robbery of the illicit club. DeSena was shot accidentally when one of the gunmen dropped a weapon and accidentally discharged a second weapon in his other hand, striking DeSena in the torso. The gunmen escaped with as much as $100,000 from the club and remain at large, though an extensive investigation continues. Scott Clements Claims NAPC -- The North American Poker Championship was held in the north part of North America, meaning in Canada at the Fallsview Casino Resort near Niagara Falls. Scott Clements("BigRissky") survived five days of play to take this one down, collecting CAD $1,387,224 and a WPT Championship seat for the win. BigRissky’s win came over a loaded final table that also included Barry Greenstein, Jeff "ActionJeff" Garza, Jonathan Little and Kofi Farkye, a noted online player. Little claimed second place and a CAD $680,862 check. Swedish Monopoly to Disband…? -- European Union pressure on several countries to eliminate their state-run online-gambling monopolies might mean the formal ending of Sweden’s state-run Svenska Spel, which was caught in a bind by its own country’s laws. While some reports indicated that the company would be discontinued, others suggest that a reformation more in line with EU regulations is more likely, bolstered by the fact the Svenska Spel recently posted record profits and has also entered into an agreement with a "secret" government for a new site, along with software provider Boss Media. Bodog Does a Billion -- Here’s the week’s big promo piece: Bodog Poker will soon be reaching its billionth hand dealt, and is noting the milestone with a celebration that will dole out over $50,000 in cash and tournament entries. Check in at Bodog… erm, bodoglife.com… for the latest. Uz Takes Indiana Circuit Event -- The latest stop on the 12-event WSOP Circuit tour was Caesars Indiana, just north of Louisville, where the winner’s purse and ring went to relative unknown Carlos Uz. Uz outlasted a final table that included one big name, WSOP Player of the Year Tom "Donkey Bomber" Schneider. Uz claimed $165,000 and the official win after a late deal with official runner-up Mark Fretter. The chipcount deal actually gave Fretter slightly more money -- $175,034 and a 2008 WSOP seat.~~ Read more about Poker Tournaments.Recent Cheesemonster Stands Alone For FTOPS Win WSOP 2008 Final Table Delayed Until November Chiu Overtakes Gus Hansen For WPT Championship Chorny Takes Down $3M EPT Monte Carlo Event Cantu A Shooting Star At Bay 101 Championship Event Ivey Takes LA Poker Classic Freeroller Vance Wins 1.2M At EPT Copenhagen 'Reverse' Becomes FTOPS VII Champion FullTilt, PokerStars Tournaments Take Off Timex Wins German Open, Antigua Goes WTO Round 2 Tools |
