Hoyle Poker Rules have evolved from the early English gaming authority Edmond Hoyle.  Born in 1672,  Hoyle was one of the pioneer authors to write seriously about card games.  His first book,  “Short Treatise on the Game of Whist,”  was published in 1742.  Although Hoyle was also responsible for codifying the games of Backgammon,  Chess and a number of other games,  Poker was not among them.

Poker was not invented until 150 years after Edmond Hoyle died in 1769.  What than are  ‘Hoyle Poker Rules’?  Today,  the phrase  “According to Hoyle”  is used as a general proverb and has become synonymous with precise game playing.  So,  whenever you hear someone say  “According to Hoyle”  or refer to Hoyle Poker Rules,  it merely denotes honestly and integrity according to the rules of card playing.

In fact,  the name Edmond Hoyle has become so synonymous with conformity to poker rules,  he was enshrined in the Binion’s Horseshoe Hall of Fame as a charter member in 1979.  Not too shabby for a man who was dead 150 years before the game of Poker even evolved.
