Making sure you've got the buy-in at the last minute before a poker tournament, and other poker events in the past week.

Lindgren Takes Down $100,000-Buyin Sit-‘n’-Go --  Erick Lindgren claimed one of the richest buy-in events in recent memory, taking down a special event at the Aussie Millions featuring a buy-in of $100,000.  Pre-event hilarities ensued when Daniel Negreanu reportedly had to borrow much of the $100K from other players at the Crown Vic, apparently believing that the original “$100,000” figure was a typo.  Lindgren claimed a cool $1,000,000 for his triumph in the 18-player event, up from ten players in its debut a year ago.
brother, where art my hundred thou?
Erik Seidel took second and Masaski Kagawa third, in the final two money spots.  Tony G, this event’s bubble boy, has a nice write-up on his own blog.

Atlanta-Area Home Game Busted --  This one picked up very little attention in the poker media, but you can read some of the details of the bust here.  24 people were arrested at a home in the South Hall neighborhood of Gainesville, GA, for “Commercial Gambling” (a.k.a. “running the game”) or “Gambling” (a.k.a. “ditto”).  A couple of people were cited for “Criminal Intent to Gamble,” which is apparently the charge used to legally steal the money from people who are present but aren’t actually gambling or running the game.  Another week, another Bible-Belt bust....

British Poker Case Challenges “Luck vs. Skill” Gambling Tenet --  Knowledgeable poker sorts know that one of the seminal legal decisions involving poker was the celebrated challenge that Billy Baxter made against the IRS two decades back, proving that poker winnings were a matter of skill rather than chance over the greater term.  Now a British case challenges some of the same sort of outmoded legal beliefs as they exist within the canon of UK law.  The specifics are a little different, of course, as restaurant/pub owner Derek Kelly challenges the existing 1968 statutes.  Kelly was charged with two counts of not having the needed license governing “games of chance” at his Gutshot restaurant, located in London.  One fact in Kelly’s favor: He took no fees for running the games.

Harrah’s Announces 2007 WSOP Schedule --  Get those airline and room reservations made!  Harrah’s has sent out the schedule for the 2007 edition of the World Series of Poker, even though they haven’t yet updated the main page of the worldseriesofpoker.com site to reflect the ’07 events.  (Look for the information in the “Press Releases” section linked at the bottom of the main page.)  The 2007 WSOP serves up 55 events over nearly seven weeks, with a deeper selection of varied game types and buy-ins than in previous years.  All of these new events occur during June, before the Main Event itself gets underway in early July; the lowly “second chance” events are no longer on the slate.  It’s all at the Rio, of course, the WSOP’s recent Vegas haunt.

Moneymaker Millionaire Crowned --  Poker Stars’ massive “Moneymaker Millionaire” promotion wrapped up as a part of Stars’ ongoing Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure.  The winner?  Canadian student Quillan Nagel, who received his $850,000 cash portion of the first-place prize from title honoree Chris Moneymaker himself.  Nagel also won a brand-new Aston Martin DB9, which will presumably not be delivered to his home by Daniel Craig or any other James Bond-playing actor.  Did you ever wonder if Q’s special devices could ever pass through modern-day shipping regulations?~~
